Home for Christmas - rain, rain and more rain

Home in Norway for Christmas. The "real" Christmas weather is absent, but we have had a pretty decent amount of rain.

My mom and I bought and decorated our Christmas tree the other day.

In the wild, hunting for the perfect tree.

Managed to find a tree and get it home. A great achievement.

The result

This pic is crap, but it gives you a better idea of the atmosphere.

Me decorating.

Santa brings me a gift every day=)

Leaving Australia today

Flying to Sydney at 13.15 today and then to London. Will stay in London for a couple of days to visit my South African friend, Lisa. Will be home in dear old Norway on Friday December 1.

Have spent the last week organizing my new room, shopping and doing tourist stuff. Managed to get a nasty cold, so that pretty much prevented me from going to the beach=( Almost rid if it now, but I'm sure it will emerge again in London. I'm not quite sure if I'm prepared for this change of weather.

Christmas in Brisbane

Sommarferie

Sommarferie
Hålle for tiå på me "panikksoling", ittesom huden min akkurat isje e så veldig brune. Men men...

Flytte inn me 4 venner av Vas. Heilt nytt hus, veldig fint.

Mission Ikea

They opened up a new Ikea store in Brisbane today, 4 times bigger than the older one. With heaps of great offers, like a 9 dollar foot stool, we had to make the trip. Sadly enough we weren't the only ones that had that idea. The car park was full when we got there, so we were redirected to a field pretty far from Ikea.

They had shuttles going to and from this field every 20 minutes. We reached Ikea after a bit of waiting, which by the way looks pretty much like Ikea at Forus, and the shopping could start. There were not an uncomfortable amount of people, but I don't think it would have been a day for my mother to visit the store.

Ate Swedish meat balls and has lots of free samples of Daim, sånn kaga me gule krem, Balerina and Sangrina cookies. Foods you can't really get in Brisbane. So that was cool. Had a pretty nice day. Seeing some of the staff dressed up in cheap copies of the Swedish bunad almost brought me to tears. Not...

E ennå isje heilt vant me (nesten) bare fint vær.

Surfers Paradise

Spent Saturday in Surfers Paradise, an hour's drive from Brisbane. Were a couple of hours on the beach, but had to leave earlier than we planned because it became quite windy. The temperature was good though, and the water was really nice.

Spent the rest of the day shopping and touring Surfers. Ate lots of ice cream and just chilled, really got the holiday feel.

Unfortunately the whole beach was in the shade by the time I remembered to take pics.

Desperate Housewives

New Desperate Housewives (Frustrerte fruer) episodes are out! Very exited about that. Seen two episodes so far=) Still very dramatic of course, already had a murder.

Got post from Norway the other day, two magazines from mormor. Tanx. Read them by the pool while tanning. Went for my first swim in the pool afterwards. Water was a bit cold for my liking, but I guess the temperature was not that bad.

The Brisbane Broncos Won!

Just wanted to let you know that at least one of my teams are doing well. The Broncos, Brisbane's rugby team, won the final 15-8. To say that people were happy is an understatement. Heard Viking finally won a game too. Congrats=)

Riverfire

Hallais... What's going on guys? I've basically been busy with uni. The weather has been awful - I've had to use my umbrella more than once during the last two weeks. I know, shocking.

Two weeks ago I went to the Riverfire which is a part of the Brisbane Riverfestival. A week filled with boats, water and fun! No, seriously I'm not quite sure what it was all about, but the Riverfire, which is the opening of the festival, was great. Nice fireworks and the "dump and burn" thingy by the F-111 was cool. Watch the video by clicking on the link if you're interested.

"Man cannot live on chocolate alone; but women sure can."

- At least according to the hot chocolate brand I'm drinking now. It's pouring down outside and we even had a bit of thunder. Since it's getting dark soon the chance of me having to go outside is quite slim, so I guess it's sort of cozy to be inside snuggled up under my blanket. Hmm... It's really raining hard. Kind of noisy. It's good for Queensland, as there's water shortages here (not nearly as bad as I experienced in Cape Town, but apparently it's getting worse).

Went shopping yesterday (Sunday). Jupp, it is possible to shop on Sundays in this amazing country. Very practical. Sundays in Norway can be pretty boring when everything is closed. This is just my opinion of course, know some of you (not mentioning any names) love these days as you can ski, hike and do pretty much all kinds of nature stuff.

Exams, ants and possums

*I just wrote a long post and then managed to delete it, feeling rather angry about that. But as the determined and devoted person I am I'll give it another go. Just wanted you to know how much effort and frustration this post took me.*

Quite glad it's weekend.
Handed in my first assignment and had my first exam last week. Don't think I did too well, but at least I'm pretty sure I didn't fail any of them. My exam was multiple choice, but I had some difficulties understanding all the words they used. Afterwards someone told me that international students can bring a dictionary to exams, so now I know that.

The weather is getting "better", or maybe the correct term would warmer as most days are sunny. Was 27 C yesterday, which I must say is quite good for winter. Definitely my type of winter, no offense snow-lovers.

We're under attack at the moment. Apparently the ants like the wood in our kitchen walls and seem pretty determined to start a colony in the corner above the fridge. The Germans have declared war, but unfortunately it looks like they're loosing. I really want a house pet, but this was not quite what I had in mind.

What I would like though is a possum. They're so cute and I really want one (no shock). Saw a couple last night walking home. Pics are not too good, but it gives you an impression. It's like a crossing between a squirrel and a cat. åååå...

Slange?!

At an AFL game, Australia's own sport thingy... Can't really explain it, guess it's sort of close to rugby. Cool game...
